CQC has announced that it is changing the way it inspects residential care homes.
On 9th October 2014, Andrea Sutcliffe (Chief Inspector Adult Social Care - CQC) told the BBC that previous inspections were something of a "tick box" exercise and the CQC would have to work hard to regain public trust.
Instead, there will be more frequent OFSTED style inspections carried out by teams of inspectors.
Andrea acknowledged that previous inspections were something of a "tick box" exercise and the CQC would have to work hard to regain public trust.
"What we have recognised is that some of the ways we have been working needed to absolutely improve."
With the focus clearly on CQC and how it has missed things like Winterbourne, Hillcroft and Granary in the past, they simply cannot afford to make any more mistakes.
"There is too much awful care that is actually happening and calling time on poor care is something that we have got to do."
